THE final fundraising totals are in for the 'Cream Tea Run', with the charity motorcycle run and live music nights raising a grand total of almost £600.

Cheques for £291.92 were presented to representatives from Hospiscare and the National Association for Bikers with a Disability at the Rockhen's Coop in the Arcade recently.

The event, in its fourth year, was held during the second weekend in June at Bracken Tor House.

On the first night, riders and revellers enjoyed food and live music, headlined by the winners of the 2011 Okehampton Battle of the Bands, the Monkey Gland Blues Band.

The next morning riders set off from the London Inn, taking in some of the best roads and scenery in Devon.

The day was rounded off with another night of live music, headlined by Stevie: One Bloke One Mandolin.

The weekend's events helped to raise the magnificent total, despite wet and windy weather during June.

Janice Elson, who helped organise the event, said: 'We had all those winds, so while the numbers on the bike ride were down, it was still well supported. The music nights were brilliant — the Friday night was absolutely heaving.

'The Monkey Gland Blues Band were immense. They drew such a following, and they were fantastic on the night. They enjoyed it so much they offered to come back next year, even if they weren't headlining.

'It was so well supported, and not just by the guests. The hostel built a new bandstand, and without the support of John Elson and his team we just couldn't do it. They were great.'

Plans are being put in place for next year's event, with the Monkey Gland Blues Band scheduled to return and a more informal ride-out planned.

Janice expressed thanks to John Elson and the Adventure Okehampton team, and to everyone who helped in any way or attended the bike ride and music evenings.
