VOLUNTEER drivers are being sought by a Tavistock support service which has made a great difference in helping elderly people access appointments over the past nine months.

Tavistock Area Support Services (TASS) has developed a volunteer car service to help older people access appointments with doctors, dentists and hospitals since the beginning of the year.

With the scaling down of hospital cars the service has made a big difference in helping people of Tavistock and surrounding area to remain independent in attending appointments locally and further a field, said TASS manager Andy Lyle.

'The service has been a great success with volunteer drivers supporting clients from their home to their appointments, using their own cars, as well as wheelchair accessible vehicles, each month covering hundreds of miles,' he said.

'This service continues to make life so much easier for people accessing appointments and we continue to work with others in delivering this valuable service in our area'
