INTERESTED people are invited to attend a talk by retired Lt Colonel Tony Clark this month, on 'The impact of the First World War on Dartmoor's Communities'.
The presentation, organised by the Dartmoor Museum Association, will include themes such as the men leaving for military service, horses being taken from Dartmoor farms for the war effort, war refugees arriving, recruiting marches, food shortages, farmers' efforts, casualties, conscription, gathering moss for medical aids and the dead being commemorated.
The talk will follow immediately after the Dartmoor Museum Association's annual meeting, which takes place at the Ockment Centre on Friday, October 24 at 7pm. Admission for non-members of the DMA is by donation.
