AN 80-year-old daredevil from Bridestowe is showing her support for her daughter by jumping out of a plane to raise money for charity later this month.

Nancy Cleary is planning to do a skydive tomorrow (Friday) to raise money for the cancer charity FORCE.

She is taking on the thrilling challenge in support of her daughter Michaela, who has been having treatment to combat cancer. She is currently undergoing a second round of chemotherapy. Nancy decided to raise money for FORCE following their help through Michaela's treatment.

Nancy said: 'When Michaela was diagnosed it was quite a shock and I am so grateful that Devon was one of the counties to lower the age of doing mammograms last year from 50 to 47.

'During Michaela's treatment I have felt so useless I decided to do something crazy to help out in the small way I could.

'The skydive should get the adrenaline pumping. I'm scared stiff at the thought of it, but I know I will do it because that's just the sort of person I am.

'I just hope that the weather doesn't meant I won't be able to do it on the 27th because it'd make me even more scared having to wait.

'I just wanted to do something to support my daughter, and I thought why not something like a skydive.

'FORCE have been so helpful throughout Michaela's treatment, offering her advice and being there at the other end of the phone whenever she's had a question.

'She's been pleased with their help throughout this so I thought I'd do this to say thank you.'

So far, Nancy's efforts have raised more than £1,000, smashing her original fundraising target of £600.

Since 1987, FORCE has offered support to those in the area suffering with cancer, and has raised hundreds of thousands of pounds to support the treatment of cancer sufferers attending Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital.
