A LEISURELY train ride followed by a walk across stunning Dartmoor scenery and a barbecue will ensure an upcoming special charity day is on the right tracks. Staff and volunteers from Okehampton-based Dartmoor Railway are organising the charity day on Sunday, March 13. Any charity based or working in Devon is invited to take part by bringing their supporters along to Dartmoor Railway?s ?Quick March on the Moor? event. The day will start from 10.30am onwards when tea and coffee will be served to all ticket holders before they board the 11am train to Meldon. From Meldon there is a choice of walks ? one for the more adventurous walker and one suitable for wheelchairs, buggies and bicycles (cycle hire is available at Okehampton Station). On their return to the station at Okehampton, a barbecue can be enjoyed with more tea and coffee. The event is being organised in conjunction with the Myasthenia Gravis Association and tickets ? which are fully inclusive of drinks, train ride and barbecue ? cost £6 per child, £9 per adult and £21 for a family of two adults and two children. Myasthenia Gravis is an auto-immune disease which is characterised by fluctuating, sometimes fatal, muscle weakness caused by a breakdown in communication between nerve and muscle.
