DANCE students from West Devon were among those who took part in a recent dancing display with many receiving awards. The students also attend classes held by the Rosemary Woodwark School of Dance in Chagford. Mrs Woodwark also holds classes at Bovey Tracey and Liverton. The display was held at South Dartmoor Community College in Ashburton to raise funds for the dancing school?s special tap flooring. Eliza Squire from Hatherleigh received a special award for artistry and Eve Halliday from Gidleigh won the senior progress trophy. Erin Young from Drewsteignton has gained a full scholarship to attend the Elmhurst Birmingham Royal Ballet School from September. A total of 1,000 students apply and only ten are given places, but Erin?s great musicality was enough to see her become one of the fortunate ones. Other students gained high marks in their Royal Academy of Dance ballet examinations. Rebecca Crawford from Throwleigh gained a merit, and Eliza Squire from Hatherleigh a pass for the Grade 8 award. Elena Binns from South Zeal, and Jessica Squire from Hatherleigh gained a Grade 7 pass, and Eve Halliday a Grade 5 with distinction. Among the younger students there was also further ballet success at the Royal Academy of Dance. Alice Rubbra from Drewsteignton achieved primary with merit, Aidan Biggs from Belstone and Kate Ledgard from Chagford achieved primary with pass.
