DARTMOOR National Park Authority is asking moor users and visitors to take extra care of the environment during this busy period.
Following the success of a similar plea earlier this year to protect nesting birds in the Spring they are asking people to prevent animals? deaths, keep control of dogs and to take particular care if barbecuing on the moor.
People are asked not to feed ponies and other moorland animals as it can encourage them to the potentially lethal roadside.
It is also inadvisable because the food is not suitable for their diets.
They are reminding drivers to drive carefully and to keep within the mandatory 40 miles an hour speed limit.
Visitors who enjoy a walk on the moor with their dogs should keep the animals under close control and obedient to their call at all times, especially where moor animals are grazing.
Dog waste, as in the city, should be bagged and binned in a suitable location, and not just left on the moor because it is a health hazard to humans and animals.
Many people take advantage of wonderful Dartmoor to dine al fresco, but remember to take litter home and dispose of it properly.
Barbecues can damage the environment by killing patches of grass which in some cases leads to erosion.
To prevent this and stop fires from starting, keep barbecues off the ground ? ideally placing them on a flat rock.
If every visitor remembers these simple rules Dartmoor will still be enjoyed by generations to come.
