MEADOWLANDS Leisure Pool in Tavistock will be offering a range of summer activities to the local community until August 30. 

The activities range from those suitable for absolute beginners, to those who are more confident in the water.

Dolphin snorkeler, Tuesdays 4-5pm until 30 August; beginners, Tuesday, August 16 to Friday August 19, 4-5pm; Monday, August 22 to Friday August 26, 4-5pm; watermanship, August 16-19, 4-5pm and August 22-26, 4-5pm; rookie games days, Thursday, August 18 and 25, 4-5pm. 

Dave Smith, business manager at Meadowlands for Leisure Connection said: 'It's important for young people to be kept active during the summer holidays, so they have the opportunity to enjoy a healthy lifestyle all year round. We hope these activities will encourage kids in the area to be energetic and will also give them the chance to make new friends outside of school.'

n Both Meadownlands pool in Tavistock and Parklands Leisure Centre in Okehampton are offering free swimming to children under 8 years-old until Sunday. August 28. 

Owned by West Devon Borough Council and operated in partnership with Leisure Connection, the pools are encouraging children in the community to register for this offer and enjoy the benefits of a fit and active lifestyle.

Chris Perry, contract manager for Leisure Connection, said: 'Swimming is a great way for young people to keep healthy and I hope that families will consider taking advantage of this fantastic offer.'

All children under the age of 8 must be supervised in the water, at all times, by a parent, or an adult over the age of 18.

One adult may accompany up to two children under the age of 8.
