A GROUP of Okehampton swimmers made a splash for cash by holding a sponsored swim last Sunday. Organiser Julie Sylvester gathered together ten friends to take part in the sponsored swim at the Parklands Leisure Centre in Okehampton. The event was organised to aid the tsunami appeal, with a fantastic total of approximately £1,500 raised. Julie said: ?Along with a friend, I said I would only do about 60 lengths and then I would stop, but I ended up doing about 100, and we raised even more money than we first thought we would.? Julie thanked Parklands Leisure Centre for use of the pool for two hours on Sunday evening and all those who took part or pledged sponsorship money. Among those who took part in the sponsored swim were: Julie Sylvester, Hillary Sharp, Jenni Powers, Emily Currie, Jennifer Turner, Mark Francis, Sue Sampson, Alison Wonnacott, Jason and Clover.
