THREE local horse-riders have helped the South West regional team claim first place in the EnduranceGB inter-regional team championships.

Trena Brock from Hatherleigh, Jo Chisholm from Lydford and her daughter Abby, aged 16, were among a team of 14 that competed for the area against six other teams. The South West team had clinched second place in the last two years, and it was third time lucky for them this year as they claimed the overall title.

The two day event took place at Barbury Castle in Wiltshire on August 13- 14. More than 140 competitors took part in the event, highlighting the high standard of the team's performance.

Trena rode her seven year old Arab gelding, Sahir Kashmir on the 65km course. After completing the course horses are graded on their condition after the race, including their heart rate. Trena achieved a grade one.

Abby also achieved a grade one, riding Jo's endurance horse Grey Medlar in the 80km race over two days. Jo rode her horse Cario LA in the 80km race, coming in a strong fifth place.
