THE Mount House first rugby VII enjoyed a successful end to the sevens' season with good showings in three tournaments.
After their fine performance in the Port Regis Sevens, the Mount House first team had high hopes for their home tournament. The School fielded both an A and a B team, and both sides competed well with the other schools taking part. Notable performances for the home teams came from Ben Hoolash, who scored three tries for the A team, and Louis Smith, the captain and scorer for the B side. St Peter's Lympstone, fielding a very strong team, were the tournament winners, with the Mount House A team runners-up.
Mount House entered a team for the first time into the IAPS Small Schools Sevens tournament at Oundle. Defeats in the first two pool games, to Witham Hall (eventual winners) and Spratton Hall (plate finalists), appeared to have signalled an early return to Tavistock for the Mount House team, a well-deserved victory in their final pool match against Lockers Park, and took them through to the Salver competition. Further victories against Beeston Barbarians (42-0) and Maidwell Hall (26-7) saw Mount House through to a national final against Lockers Park.
In the final, Mount House completed the double over Lockers Park with three tries to win 19-10 and take the salver.
