A BRILLIANT day enhanced by bright sunny weather was enjoyed by a good crowd at the Latchley Chilsworthy and Cox Park showfield on last weekend.

After two successive years of wet weather, it came as a relief to the organisers that this year's show was blessed with the best of conditions.

Outdoor attractions like go carts and rides in the donkey carts were hugely enjoyed by children and adults alike. The youngsters were entranced by the conjurer Mr Wishy Washy.

The colourful marquee was a feature of this year's show, where the standard of entries were uniformally high.

BBC TV's Justin Leigh presented the trophies to successful competitors.

He remarked on the high standard in so many of the various exhibits and was particularly struck by the friendly atmosphere of the show.

Callington Town Band provided live music and did sterling work in what must have seemed a baking sun at times.

A spokesman for the organising committee paid tribute to Jeff Hearn, chairman of the show,  and his stalwart band of helpers.

He said: 'Without the efforts of these hard working and selfless individuals, small village fetes of the old tradition would not take place.

'Congratulations to them all on producing such a successful event.'
