HOLIDAY Club for four to 12-year-old children is opening its doors at Winkleigh Primary School for the summer.
The project will be run by the School's Out Childcare Services (SOCS) — a community interest company which has said the initiative will be open to all children within that age group throughout the summer holidays from Monday, July 20 until September 3.
Children from Winkleigh and its surrounding areas will be accepted, whether or not they are pupils at the school.
SOCS has been set up by three long-standing members of the Friends of Winkleigh School — Jane Riches, Anna Fay and Robin Hampshire. Both Anna and Robin are also on the school's board of governors.
The service replaces a previous similar holiday/after-school club, which ceased operating during the summer of 2008.
Robin said: 'Since that time there has been an acute shortage of childcare facilities in the Winkleigh area, particularly during the school holidays.
'This new service aims to fill that void and to provide a safe, supervised environment in which children between the ages of four and 12 can thoroughly enjoy themselves.'
SOCS will be opening its doors from July 20 — the first day of the school holidays — from 10am to noon, and from 4pm to 6pm for all parents, carers and children to come and meet the staff and see what facilities it has to offer.
Depending on bookings, SOCS hopes to extend the service into the autumn term and beyond by holding a breakfast club before school, from 7.45am to 8.45am, and an after school club, from 3.30pm to 6pm.
SOCS is Ofsted registered and all its staff are fully qualified and CRB checked.
