COLUMBINES started tentatively in their first league hockey game of the season, but settled down once Sue Stanbury scored the opener.

Carol Taylor at left back drove the defence forward to set up Okehampton?s attacking game. Caroline Friend at left half cut out any threat from the Penzance right attack. Okehampton went 2-0 up just before half time, when Jo Stephens scored following a fine move by Netty Collett.

In the second half Okehampton changed the positions of some of their players and this worked to their advantage.

Penzance rarely penetrated into the Okehampton circle, and Columbines were playing free flowing hockey.

Jo Stephens scored their third goal with a reverse stick shot and Claire Smith, who had an excellent second half, struck the ball into the circle for Viv Weatherington to score Okehampton?s fourth

Sue Stanbury finished off the game when she slammed in her second.

Okehampton are at home in the league this week to Mannamead from Plymouth.
