FIVE of the senior swimmers at Tavistock Swimming Club recently competed in the Devon Seniors and Masters Gala at Tiverton.

They achieved a total of 23 medals between them – 14 golds, eight silvers and a bronze.

In the 17 – 18 years senior girls age group, girls' vice captain Kathryn Stacey won gold medals in all her four events: 50 and 100m freestyle, 100m backstroke and the 100m IM. Club captain Nathaniel Rookes competed in the 17 – 18 years senior boys section and achieved medals in each of his seven events. Nathaniel won two golds in the 50 and 100m breaststroke, four silvers in the 50 and 100m backstroke, 100m IM, 100m freestyle and a bronze medal in the 50m freestyle.

In the Masters gala, in the 18 – 24 girls age group, Kirsty Best claimed three gold medals in the 50m and 100m breaststroke, 100m IM and a silver in the 50m freestyle, while Michael Best competing in the men's 18 – 24 age group and won gold medals in the 50 and 100m breaststroke and a silver medal in the 100m IM. Gareth Williams won three gold medals in the men's 25 – 29 age group, in the 100m backstroke, 50m fly and the 100m IM and silver medals in the 50m backstroke and 200m freestyle.
