FIFTEEN sixth form students from Okehampton College may have had a glimpse of their future as they visited Oxford University last week to tour one of its colleges.
Meeting the admis-sions tutor, students discussed the degrees on offer, the grades required, the application process and interview advice.
The visit was organ-ised and guided by Central Devon MP Mel Stride, a former Oxford graduate, and followed a successful trip that he organised for college students last year.
The MP wants state school pupils not to be intimidated from applying to the best universities in the country, which still have a disproportionately high number of privately educated students.
Speaking after the trip Mr Stride said: 'I am very grateful to the teachers at Okehampton College who supported this initiative in such an enthusiastic way and hope that we can build on this approach for a third year in 2014 to give Okehampton's young people every possible encouragement to aim high.'
