A GROUP of more than 20 Year 7 students from Tavistock College are due to take the plunge in a marathon charity swimming event being held at Meadowlands pool this month. The students are doing their bit to raise more than £2 million nationally, by taking part in the Butlins Swimathon, which this year is supporting the National Childrens? Homes charity. The youngsters aims to swim 21 miles in just two hours, which is the equivalent to swimming the the English Channel from England to France. Rob Whitehead, manager at Meadowlands, said the students? efforts were one of the most positive contributions to the Butlins Swimathon this year. ?It?s great that students at the college are participating in this major fundraising event,? said Mr Whitehead. In addition to the Tavistock College students, children from Gulworthy School are also due to make a splash for Swimathon. The school is entering two teams of staff who are swimming 5,000 metres each. It is not too late to enter this year?s Swimathon event, which is open to individuals or teams.
