AN evening to help students make the right decision when choosing subjects for GCSE and A-levels was held at Okehampton College.

The options evening allowed pupils and their parents to find out more about each course on offer at GCSE and sixth form level.

The evening, held last Thursday, offered pupils the opportunity to ask teachers questions about their area of study and find out more information on their preferred course.

Each subject had a table, advertising a particular course, which gave pupils and parents a detailed idea of what it involved.

Co-ordinator of the GCSE aspect and teacher at Okehampton College Bob Howarth said: 'This event plays a vital role in Year 9s making the right choice about studying for their GCSEs.'

Head of sixth form and teacher of business studies Neil Sproats said: 'I consider this the most important evening in the school calendar for Year 11 students. '

Mr Sproats said the options evening gave the pupils a better insight into their chosen careers.

'It helps them to decide their future, a process that can seem quite intimidating.'
