A NEW footpath in Mary Tavy, created by the community and named Jubilee Walk in recognition of the year it was constructed, will be opened this Saturday, May 5 at 3pm.
Although some of the plans for the opening celebration have had to be curtailed due to the recent wet weather there will be badges for everyone who takes part in a walk and balloons for children. A barbecue and drinks will be available.
On the same day at 2pm Mary Tavy and Peter Tavy WI are holding their spring sale of plants and cakes in the Coronation Hall.
Parking for the Jubilee Walk opening will be in the recreation ground, next to the hall.
The footpath has reached the end of phase one of its construction, with land stabilisation and lighting still be installed. It is hoped all the new signage will be in place by Saturday. As the ground will still be rather muddy everyone is advised to wear appropriate footwear.
In fewer than two months the path has been fenced, a bridge built, stone walls erected, three gates installed, work done to stabilise the ground, and more than £2,500 raised. Most of the funding has been by public donation and the three sponsors who have added significant funds are The Pool Guy, SJP Motors and Kevin Hilborn.
