WEST Devon branch of an armed forces charity has celebrated the organisation's 125th birthday.
The West Devon branch of SSAFA, the Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Families Association, which provides support to former service personnel and their families, held a coffee morning at The Old Schools in Hatherleigh to celebrate the milestone while raising money for their continuing work in the area.
The event, which took place as part of SSAFA's nationwide 'Big Brew', was attended by Central Devon MP Mel Stride.
He said: 'Each year SSAFA provide a vital service to over 50,000 former servicemen, servicewomen and their families and I was delighted to see such a good attendance for this fundraiser.'
SSAFA's network of case workers across the UK and overseas stations helps and supports anyone connected with the armed forces.
This can be anything from a stairlift, an electric wheelchair, to help and support both physically and mentally for service personnel suffering combat stress.
There is no time bar for those who can apply for help and there are still many from the second world war who are receiving help and advice from our caseworkers, as well as of course from more recent and ongoing conflicts.
If you are interested in getting involved and would like to do something to support the armed forces, contact SSAFA divisional secretary Alan Johnson on 01822 612527.
