AFFORDABLE housing is one of the most important issues affecting West Devon, said Liberal Democrat parliamentary spokesperson Adam Symons at a meeting with Dartmoor National Park Authority and the Dartmoor Commoners' Council.

Mr Symons was speaking out after the publication of the Taylor Review, which investigated how land use and planning ccould better support rural business and deliver affordable housing.

Calling on the Government to rethink how new housing is planned and built, Mr Symons said: 'Residents in West Devon earn 35 per cent less than the national average, and yet have significantly higher house prices.

'Most people cannot afford to buy into the local housing market.

'This is one of the most important issues affecting our area.'
