I NOTICE that South West Water is a proud sponsor of the Tamar Valley Mining Heritage Scheme (logo on back of newsletter). Yet they are so determined to develop land adjacent to the River Tamar in Gunnislake that they have spent thousands of pounds in various surveys trying to justify it before re-submitting their application. This is despite having the planning application rejected by Caradon Council, and being turned down at appeal, in the process provoking strong objections from the Tamar Valley AONB Service who are running the scheme. The money they hope to make from the sale of the land for development will recompense them for the money they have donated to the scheme. At least the AONB Service seem prepared to bite the hand that feeds them! Peter Thompson Gunnislake pgrthompson@ yahoo.co.uk
