OKEHAMPTON radio presenter Matt Woodley?s 24-hour sponsored broadcast has surpassed his own expectations ? by raising more than £30,000 for BBC Radio Devon?s Chestnut Appeal.
Matt went ?on air? on BBC Radio Devon from noon on Friday, August 1 to the following Saturday lunchtime to raise money for the station?s Chestnut Appeal, for a state of the art prostate cancer unit at Derriford Hospital.
Money was raised from sponsorship, pledges and the auctioning of prizes donated by local businesses during the marathon broadcast.
With almost all the cheques and sponsorship forms now in, Matt?s radio marathon has now raised a magnificent total of £30,718.
Matt said he was delighted with how much had been raised, and said many people had rounded up totals and added small donations which had helped boost the final total.
Matt said: ?It has exceeded everyone?s expectations.
?Hundreds of listeners have helped with raising sponsorship for the programme as well as many local businesses making donations towards the on-air auction.?
Radio Devon?s Chestnut Appeal has raised more than £165,000, since it first began in January, with many more fundraising events planned. Radio Devon reporter Jo Bishop will be setting out on a three-week marathon charity walk around the county on Saturday, August 30, to help raise funds and awareness of prostate cancer.
