CALLINGTON Community College welcomed world famous cellist Julian Lloyd-Webber last week as it celebrated its new status as a specialist music college. Mr Lloyd-Webber gave an hour long masterclass with three lucky students at the public event which set the seal on the new specialist status awarded by the DfES in January.The award brings the college an extra £65,000 a year for the next four years. Callington Community College was the first specialist Music College in the South West and the only Sports and Music College in the country. The college has nearly 300 students engaged in additional musical instrument tuition and is the only school in the area offering A-level Music and A-level Music Technology. Mr Lloyd-Webbe gave one-to-one tuition to some students, held a question-and-answer session and played some Elgar.
