A TAVISTOCK serviceman has recently received a special award from the chief constable of Devon and Cornwall Constabulary. Special Chief Inspector Barry Pyke from Tavistock Police Station was presented with the award in recognition of his ten years service with the constabulary. And joining Barry at the awards ceremony were a West Devon husband and wife. PC Kevin Reed and ?other half? WPC Jillian Steer both received their 22 year long service awards from the chief constable Maria Wallis, at the police headquarters in Exeter. Kevin is currently neighbourhood beat manager for Peter Tavy, Mary Tavy, Lydford, Brentor and Stowford, while Jillian is neighbourhood beat manager for the Chagford area. Kevin ? who has served at Plymouth Crownhill, Yelverton, Okehampton, Launceston and Tavistock ? said that when he was the force men?s cross country champion, Jillian was the women?s champion, and likewise when he was the force men?s triathlon champion she was the women?s. ?I?m not sure who was chasing who!? he said. His main claim to fame is appearing on page three of the Sun, if only as a caption next to the main picture. ?It was when I was cross country champion, and I caught an escapee from Dartmoor prison after a chase around the Derriford area of Plymouth,? he said. The couple have only spent three months at the same station, which was Launceston.
