SOUTH Tawton pistol shooter Georgina ’Gorgs’ Geikie has been crowned the British Pistol Club champion.
Since first picking up a pistol as a member of the Mid Devon Pony Club Tetrathlon team at the age of eight, Gorgs’ shooting expertise has gone from strength to strength, including competing in the London 2012 Olympics.
Holding off stiff competition in a tense final to become British champion, Gorgs’ skill and unwavering commitment to her sport was evident and she triumphed by a significant lead of six points ahead of her closest rival.
Reflecting on her success, Gorgs said: ’I’ve worked with a psychologist to maintain a calm, focused exterior and internal belief, and it paid dividends when it came to the crunch under pressure. The physical training in torrential rain over the winter was tough but helped too in controlling my breathing and brain functionality.’
Delighted to be recognised as the best pistol shooter in the UK, Gorgs continues with a busy season of competition ahead.
Helen Hayes of Helpful Holidays, a sponsor of Gorgs, said: ’We’re so proud of Gorgs, who has trained incredibly hard and deserves this remarkable accolade. Her focus literally hasn’t wavered. It’s an amazing achievement by our local hero!’
