Chagford v South Devon

OVERSEAS professional Vorster continued his excellent form and made a telling contribution in this Devon league match.

South Devon batted first with Carter and Burnigham out with just 44 on the board. Then Vorster joined Carter and they advanced the score to 89 before Jerry Christophers dismissed Carter for 37.  Hewings joined Vorster and in an exhilarting stand of 138 for the fourth wicket of 138 with Vorster being the dominant partner took the score to 227 when Billy Searle returning to the attack accounted for Hewings for 41.  South African Vorster finished on 117 not out.    For Chagford Billy Searle 2-67, Lammonby 62 and Christophers 1-54 were the wicket takers.

   In reply Chagford lost Gordon-Lennox and Paul Penberthy for 7 apiece, Billy Searle (13) and then Arnie Searle looking in top form was well caught by wicketkeeper Halse for 30, Ridgers (4) and Bowes (0) followed to leave Chagford at 99-6. 

However skipper Lammonby with 34, Jerry Christophers 23 and David Penberthy continued his good form with a constructive and intelligent innings of 30 not out to enable Chagford  to reach a respectable 176-8 to give South Devon a winning draw.    

Illustrating the value of Voster the overseas player was the star of the South Devon attack with 4-40 and was the big difference between the two sides. Points South Devon 15. Chagford 8.
