POLICE officers from Okehampton's traffic section will be outside the town's Waitrose store tomorrow (Friday), as part of a Christmas safety awareness campaign.
MPC Steve Millar and MPC Steve Thomson will be at the store between 9am and 5pm giving advice and information.
Sgt Barry Tillyer said: 'The officers will have what we call an alcometer box, which is used for roadside breath tests.
'They will also have speed detector equipment in their vehicle. It's basically with Christmas and New Year upon us, about raising awareness of drink-driving dangers, speed and use of seat belts etc.'
Sgt Tillyer said members of the public can see the equipment used by the police and ask questions — information leaflets will also be available.
A similar awareness day is being held next Wednesday outside Safeway in Tavistock, when MPC Dave Hargreaves and MPC Martin Base will be at the store between 8am and 1pm.
