AS part of their summer tour the Zimbabwean acapella song and dance group Black Umfolosi will be performing at Hatherleigh Festival. They have a global reputation for stunning, passionate performances that showcase the traditional dancing styles of the southern African region as well as more contemporary movements. The bared torso, vibrant gumboot dance that originates from the miners of South Africa is a visual treat and sounds amazing, with slapping and stamping replacing traditional instruments unavailable in the mines. This high energy entertainment will be in the Town Hall Hatherleigh Friday, July 8 at 9pm. There is an acapella harmonies and dance workshop on Saturday morning, July 9, at 10am in the Methodist Church £5. On the evening of Sunday, July 10 the consistently fabulous Miracle Theatre Company will bring ?The Case of the Frightened Lady? into the garden of Hatherleigh Place. The play which is based on the bestseller by Edgar Wallace hinges on a tangle of dodgy criminals, false clues and foreigners with mysterious pasts. On Friday there is humour and high adventure in a duet of wicked words and virtuoso guitar playing when Michael Dacre and Steve Yates perform ?The Haunted Inn and Other Weird Tales? from the Saragossa Manuscript by Count Jan Potocki. Organic Theatre Group present ?Sheepskin? on Thursday evening. Performed by John Dean, ?Sheepskin? tells the story of Jeremy, a young farmer, who attempts to save his sheep from foot and mouth, while confronting the army, which is converging with tanks to lay siege to his sheep pen.
