SONGWRITER Sherrill Pluckrose is aiming to make her mark in the music business. She has just had a mail shot at record producers with a demo tape of her up-beat number 'Walking in the Shadow of You'.

By day Sherrill, 42, works at the Coffee Mill in Tavistock but her spare time is devoted to songwriting — a hobby she has enjoyed since her early teens.

Now having decided to knock on the door of the music industry instead of just keeping her songs in a drawer she is eagerly awaiting a response from some helpful A and R man. But if her song fails to find a market Sherrill will remain undaunted. She has some 16 other completed songs written and ready to send out.

'I began writing a lot when I was a teenager. Then I started again seriously about 10 months ago because I found some original songs. Some only had titles — so I finished them off and began writing new ones.'

Sherrill, from Redmoor Close, Tavistock, says she likes all kinds of music from Country and Western to rock to chart music. But while she draws inspiration from some old favourites like The Eagles and Phil Collins her songs have their own distinctive style.

For her demo disc 'Walking in the Shadow of You' she had the vocals and musical arrangement recorded by a studio in Norwich.

'I was very pleased with the result,' said Sherrill who would like to make contact with anyone interested in putting music to her words and also recording the tracks locally.

'People have said they like my songs so I have decided to go for it. At the end of the day you only live once. And even if doesn't materialise into anything I haven't lost a lot.'
