FIREFIGHTERS were called to a property in Phoenix Close, Horrabridge last Sunday afternoon when a smoke alarm was activated. One crew from Tavistock were called to the scene at 5pm and found a small fire had occurred as a knife, inadvertently left on top of the oven, caught fire. Only minor damage was caused due to the smoke alarm's activation. l Tavistock firefighters were called to Mary Tavy last Saturday afternoon by a neighbour after black smoke was seen when a fire occurred in an oil-fired boiler. A quick thinking neighbour alerted the owner's family and the boiler was isolated. One crew from Tavistock attended the scene and made the area safe. l Yelverton firefighters were called to extinguish a car fire last Saturday at a car park in Cadover Bridge. Firefighters attended just after 9.30pm and used two hose reels and small tools to tackle the blaze which left the car severely damaged. l Tavistock firefighters were called to extinguish a fire involving the chimney of a woodburner at a home in Milton Abbot last Sunday evening. l Firefighters were called to an abandoned vehicle on a road between Cadover Bridge and the Clay Pits last Sunday. Yelverton firefighters, with watch commander Glanville in charge, attended the scene just before 5pm as the vehicle had been overturned in a car park and was leaking fuel.
