A TOTAL of £70 was last week presented to Tavistock United Reformed Church in aid of the building?s roof fund. Slimming World, which meets in the church every Thursday, presented the Rev Roger Cornish with the money for the fund. In 2005 the church found out the roof needed complete replacement and members were shocked to find out it would cost £160,000. Fundraising is now underway and to date more than £22,000 has been raised. Over the last five years the building has been renovated, made more attractive and is now the home of Tavistock Salvation Army and many community activities. Mr Cornish said to Slimming World: ?We are so grateful to you for your kindness. We wish you all success as you try to lose pounds and conversely hope the church will gain enough pounds to replace its roof!?
