ONE of the few good things about Christmas (those who know me will smile) is the wonderfully slimmed down Okehampton Times! The absence of the usual commercial input has resulted in an issue filled with stories of real local interest, if I disregard the incredible annual spectacle of 14 pages (our of 32) devoted to New Faces . . . . . Lest I get carried away by this excess of seasonal goodwill, would it be too much to ask those responsible for accurate reporting of facts, captioning of pictures, applying the right names and addresses to their owners, and spelling and context could improve in 2006? An example (for which I?m sure no-one at the Times is responsible) is the new board opposite Waitrose listing the traders in that shopping precinct, which includes Red Lion Bizarre; need I say more? Zoë Bradshaw March Court Cottage East Street, Okehampton l The number of pages each week is in proportion to the amount of advertising. In common with most weekly newspapers, the Times is slimmer during the festive period, having invariably been a 56-page paper in the preceding weeks. It is pleasing to see that Zoë thought the paper was filled with stories of real local interest! ? Editor
