Devon and Cornwall League

Teignmouth 1st XV 17

Okehampton 1st XV 35

THE Okes moved up to fourth place in the league after a convincing win against struggling Teignmouth.

On a perfect afternoon for running rugby Okehampton outscored the home side by five tries to two, despite squandering several more clear-cut scoring opportunities.

After falling behind to a Teignmouth penalty Okehampton took the lead when skipper Bruce Griffiths broke from the loose following a period of sustained pressure involving some good forward driving play.

Teignmouth hit back with a try of their own and after this the Chiefs took control. Further tries from Griffiths, Ali Mason, Lee Carey and full back Dave Wills followed and were all converted by Lee Carey.

Okehampton?s backs looked confident and penetrative when they ran the ball, although to be fair they were aided by some fairly lacklustre Teignmouth defence.

But the Okes never really gained the momentum shown during last week?s rout of Wellington and will need to recapture this form if they are to contest against the leaders Mount?s Bay in this week?s league encounter, kick-off 2.30pm at Oaklands Park.
