TAVISTOCK Sir Francis Drake Bowling Club began their week of four matches with Wednesday?s home game against Dunheved Bowling Club. The afternoon ended as a 105-95 victory for the Tavistock squads after each team won three of the six rinks played. Tavistock skips results: Norman Paramor led his team of Tony Prouse and Shirley Blackburn to a 20-10 victory, while Hazel Lovell and her team of Der Saunders and Barry Carter won 23-15. Skip Jill Lacao and her crew of Walter Meek and Charlie Cummings won 18-9. Losing skips were Wally Northey 17-18, Barry Chappell 13-21, and George Blackburn 14-22, Thursday saw five rinks of Tavistock players travel to face Topsham for a game which ended in a narrow 84-87 defeat for the Tavistock team. Skip Barry Chappell and his squad of Norman Paramor, Walter Meek and Diana Smirles were Tavistock?s only winning rink (21-12), after they picked up eleven winning shots in the last six ends of their game. Losing skips were Ernie Piper(12-17), Mike Allen(18-19), Vic Stacey(17-21), Malcolm Bloomer(16-19). Saturday brought a visit by a six-rink team from Bideford Victoria Park Bowling Club. The match ended in a 125-98 victory for the Tavistock home team after they won on four of the six rinks played. Skip Vic Stacey and his squad of Mike Felles, Shirley Blackburn and Diana Smirles notched up a hard fought victory after they picked up 14 shots in the last five ends of their game to take them from being 12-16 down to 26-17 winners. Skip Mike Allen and his team of John Timmins, Wallace Northey and Pat Wylie won 22-15, while skip Malcolm Bloomer led his crew of Val Southern, Tom Prouse and Ray Meneer to a 22-9 win. Skip Barry Chappell and his team of George Blackburn, Albert Townsend and Marlene Paramore won 26-15. Losing skips were Norman Paramor(16-22) and Ernie Piper(13-20).
