IN a week of indifferent weather, Tavistock Bowling Club managed to complete all four fixtures.

Tuesday County Trophy match against Devonport Park saw one of their best performance this season, when they ran out 96-72 winners, having won three of the four rinks played and drawn the other.

A fine performance by skip Eric Stevens and his team of Clive Jago, Norman Paramor and Lionel Sims saw them win 34-19, thanks to a good first half display.

The opposition came back at them in the second half, achieving 13 shots in the last ten ends.

Skip Mike Allen and his squad of Pat Sykes, David Perry and Tony Coombs achieved a 24-16 winning score with the opposition failing to score in the first five ends.

Skip Der Saunders and his team of John Smith, Malcolm Bloomer and Brian Preece fought a see-saw battle with the lead changing hands at almost every end and the resulting 20.20 final scoreline was a fair reflection of the game.

Skip Roy Northam and his team of Colin Tremaine, Ernie Piper and Phil Jury won by the narrowest of margins when Roy picked up two shots on the last end to win 18-17.

Wednesday saw a Tavistock mixed triples team emerge 91-60 victors after a hard fought match against a team from Chagford.

Skip John Smith, using his firing ability to good effect, led his team of Betty Browse and Jenny Alderidge to a 25-18 victory, while skip Norman Paramor led his team of Jill Lacayo and Roy Moore, playing superbly in his first game for the club, to a 25-11 win.

Skip Sandy Sanders, ably assisted by David Perry and Marlene Paramor, achieved a 24-13 win, while skip Marion Allen and her squad of Ray Meneer and Brian Preece lost 17-18.

Thursday?s Evening League match against Plymouth Police had to be curtailed at the 14th end due to the rain.

Completion of 14 ends being the required minimum for a match score to count as a result, Tavistock claimed the match with a 59-41 winning score. thanks to being in front on three rinks and drawing the fourth.

Skip Mike Allen and his squad of Pat Sykes, David Perry and Tony Coombs won 11-6, while skip Ray Northam lost only his second match of the season when going down 13-19.

Eric Stevens and his team of Clive Jago, Norman Paramor and Ernie Piper ran out 15-13 winners despite winning only six of the ends played.

Skip Der Saunders and his team of Malcolm Bloomer, John Smith and Brian Preece had a runaway victory, winning 20-4 with the opposition failing to get on the scorecard until the tenth end of the match.

Saturday?s triples game against Bideford became another victim of the weather when it was abandoned after 14 ends, at which point the four men?s rinks were losing 54-53, but thanks to the two ladies? rinks winning 17-11 Tavistock were declared 71-64 match winners.
