KELLY College first XV opened their campaign with a comfortable victory over their North Devon rivals, Shebbear College at the weekend.
On a slippery surface after another downpour the game was littered with handling errors that were totally understandable. Even though Kelly had most of the possession and territory, Shebbear defended with their lives, and kept the half time score down to 12-3 to the home team. Kelly tries came from Oliver Massy-Birch and Saul Phillips. Captain James Falvey converted the latter try.
Kelly began to play simple constructive rugby in the second half and scored two well worked tries again through Massy-Birch and Phillips after some good drives by the Kelly forwards and quick hands in the backs. Shebbear were rewarded with a late try.
On Saturday Kelly are at home to Downside School, from Bath on Saturday.
