THERE WAS a very high standard of entries at Bratton Clovelly Women's Institute's 65th annual produce show.

There were 447 entries including some from 13 men in the village, who showed that they are a dab hand in the kitchen when it comes to cake-making, exhibiting some superb sultana cakes.

From the vegetable entries it could be seen that many families appeared to be getting their recommended 'five a day'.

The cup winners were: open vegetables, Mr B Wonnacott; local vegetables, Mrs P Vanstone and Mr R Brookes-Bliss; flowers, Mrs C Miles; floral art, Mrs J Gardner; home produce, Mrs P Vanstone, runners-up cup, Mrs M Wilson; men's cup, Mr P Jellyman; handicrafts, Mrs M Wilson; art, Mrs C Orum; The Matilda Pearce Plate, Mrs P Vanstone.

Mrs C Miles, the show's secretary, thanked everyone who helped make this such a splendid day.
