INTERNATIONAL success beckons for young film-maker Jo Batten of Tavistock — she has just heard a short film she prepared for her degree this year has been selected to be shown at a film festival in Hungary.

Jo is in the final stages of of a BA in photo-media at Plymouth College of Art and Design — her film is a tribute to her late grandmother Joyce Batten, using animation, photo stills and Super 8 footage.

Jo said: 'I was really hoping it would be selected but I didn't really know what chance I had as I've never done this before. I can't wait to go, it will be a wonderful experience.'

'Peppermint Dreams' will be screened in the first films class of the Millennium Film Festival at Szolnok in Hungary from October 2 to 7.

'As part of the selection they pay for me to go over and stay for the duration of the festival,' said Jo.

'Because some of the film is animation, they have also requested some of it to be shown in an exhibition running alongside the festival.'

She said her film also received good reviews at a special showing at Plymouth Warner Village along with other graduate work. Members of the public, industry professionals, lecturers and students were all invited to attend.

'It went down quite well,' said Jo.

She has one more assignment to be handed in before her degree work is finished — she ultimate aim is to get a job within the TV industry.
