AFTER being held to 12–12 at half-time Tavistock moved away in the second half to secure five try victory in this fixture at Falmouth on Saturday.
Falmouth opened the scoring early in the first half with a try from Gareth Leaver who finished off a good handling move to score wide out.
Tavistock took control as the first half wore on, via their forwards and from this possession scrum half Matt Witcher released Andrew Smerdon for the first of his two tries.
With a second try in two games from centre Mark Debner and a conversion from Witcher Tavistock eased to a 12 – 5 lead. However, as half-time approached Falmouth got back on level terms with a try from full back James Instance converted by fly half Jack Brown.
Falmouth went briefly in front at the start of the second half via a dropped goal from from Brown. Then with the Tavistock forwards dominating possession they took the game by the scruff of the neck and stretched into the lead with two quick tries.
First winger Andrew Smerdon claimed his second try then after some intense forward pressure second row Andrew Griffiths got on the scoresheet with a try. Both tries were converted by Witcher.
Falmouth did notch another score with a try from Gareth Leaver which Brown converted.
But the last word of the game went to Tavistock with the final try. This was scored by Tavistock flanker Will Brown who found himself on the end of a fluent threequarter move. Matt Witcher round off a good individual performance with the final conversion.
This Saturday Tavistock entertain Kingsbride in the second round of the EDF Senior Vase. Kick-off 3pm.
