Kelly College 2nd XV 0
Shebbear College 1st XV 65
AT the kick-off for this away fixture, looking across at the Shebbear side, it was clear this early season game was not going to be as well matched as previous meetings had been.
From the kick-off, the bigger Shebbear forwards were rampant and the score soon raced to 35-0. A valiant effort by the less experienced second team players kept the score to a respectable level, until a couple of interception tries in the second half threatened to break the resistance of the visitors.
Despite losing touch with their opponents, Kelly rallied in the final quarter of the game to put up a brave defence.

THE first match of the season, which took place at Shebbear, was a scrappy affair and showed both sides had not played together for the last eight months.
The first try came after a good set-piece of driving ball, followed by winning a ruck then spreading the ball wide for winger Guy Jedwab to score in the right hand corner.
Kelly were awarded a penalty in front of the posts, and Jack Newton, seeing the opportunity and confusion of the opposition, took it quickly and scurried over for a try.
The second half saw good pressure from Shebbear but hard tackling, in particular from fly-half, Doug Willats, meant they did not convert this into a score. Strong runs from set-pieces led to final tries for Harry Le Page and Sam Twaites. Jedwab proved invaluable with his kicking, especially when he converted from the right touchline to finish the game.

FOLLOWING success against Shebbear, some positional changes were made for this game with hooker Nathan Probert going to blind side flanker to make use of his pace and Miles Amery moving in to hook.
This did not seem a wise decision as the game started with Kelly kicking short then losing the first two scrums against the head.
As the game progressed Kelly managed to pin Taunton back in their own half with good percentage kicking from Doug Willats. This led to a classic try from the backs with the winger, Guy Jedwab, going over to score.
Going into the second half, Kelly were 19-5 up and had yet to play well. It all started to come together in the second half with the pack stepping up a gear and the backs making good decisions.
Sam Twaites found gaps twice, running as a good number 8 with the backs as did Harry Wyatt who skimmed around the opposition. This led to Kelly being 31-5 up with four minutes to go. A couple of substitutions to test out other players, together with the team relaxing, let Taunton School in to score two consolation tries, leaving the score at 31-15 and Guy Jedwab with a personal points total of 21 after two matches.
