THE Bere Action Group is not against the water sports clubs and if any acceptable solution was forthcoming we would be fully supportive. We agree that there is a recognised need, not essential, but nonetheless a need, just like a football club, but as the AONB have stated, quote, 'not at any cost'.

Bill Stacey-Norris stated we are uninformed and yet the co-ordinator of Bere Action Group was one of the first members of the gig club and serving on their committee for many years and knows the gig club inside out, also what we stated last week is true, contrary to Bill's surprise and disbelief, and Cllr Musgrave correctly pointed out in his letter to this newspaper of September 15, quote, 'a recent application by a local resident for sailing club facilities', that there were indeed two separate applications for water sports facilities.

Despite what any planning officer says West Devon cannot guarantee that they could stop a similar application. One of Bere Action Group's primary points of contention is that any development sets a precedent !

We have to protect Weir Quay or it will turn into a 'Salcombe'.
