OKEHAMPTON Youth Chorus is back for a new series of fun singing sessions on Wednesday afternoons in a new venue in the centre of town.
OYC is open to all young people between the ages of eight and eleven from the Okehampton area. There are no auditions —all are welcome, whether they have sung before or not — and there is no need to read music.
The sessions give young people the chance to find their voices, to sing and really enjoy making music. The songs come from around the world, and are non-religious. There will also be chances to write songs and to perform.
The singing sessions will be held from Wednesday March 11 to Wednesday April 1 in the Baptist Church, Fore Street from 3.45pm to 5.15pm. The sessions are great fun and only £3.50 per week.
A spokesman for the group said: 'Some singers have started to come along from Chagford and South Tawton, and the Okehampton Youth Chorus Support Group, which runs OYC, is keen to extend chorus membership to other young people from towns and villages around Okehampton.
'Even if they cannot get into Okehampton for the start of each session, they will be warmly welcomed.'
The OYC Support Group is working with community arts charity Wren Music to make the Wednesday sessions as enjoyable as possible. Professional folk singer Matt Norman from Wren Music will be leading the sessions.
