EXCITING new projects which could change the face of Tavistock and the surrounding area will be on show to the public at a special event in the town hall next week ? and there?s a chance to win some splendid prizes, such as a trip in a hot air balloon.
The 32 schemes have been pulled together by the Tavistock and Villages Initiative (TAVI) following an extensive period of public consultation and are due to be viewed by a ?brokering table? of major funding bodies on Wednesday June 16.
The evening before, Tuesday June 15, members of the public are invited to the town hall between 6pm and 9pm, when they will be able to find out about the wide variety of projects TAVI hopes will attract funding.
Andrew Young, TAVI market towns development co-ordinator, said: ?This will be an opportunity for local people to get a better feel for what is being planned ? all are welcome to drop in.?
The projects include large and small schemes, from the re-opening of the Tavistock to Plymouth rail link and the development of a town youth café, to a skate park and redevelopment of the old pumphouse at Lopwell.
The public will be able to talk to the people behind the projects and learn more about the aims and objectives.
All the projects are contained in TAVI?s community action plan, Markets, Moors and Meadows, which can also be viewed on TAVI?s new website.
And to encourage people to take a look at the site, TAVI is running a free competition.
Mr Young said: ?By correctly answering five questions, you can enter a free prize draw. The prizes include a hot-air balloon ride for two, tickets to any production at the Wharf and a food hamper.
?The winning entries will be drawn by Peter Gorton at 1pm on Saturday July 31, at this year?s food festival.?
