North Tawton Seconds 19

Tiverton Thirds 15

AFTER struggling all season with lack of players and form the seconds' season is finishing with a flourish.

New players are fitting in nicely and producing some fine rugby. Full marks go to captain Joe Fewings who has had a difficult season but at last sees it all come together.

The game started poorly for the home side and some broken play and missed catches and tackles let Tiverton in for a try by hooker Dan Tolley.

The game swung from end to end but Tiverton started to pressurise the North Tawton line. A quickly taken penalty saw the ball swung wide to winger Craig Bulley to put Tiverton 10-0 up.

Time was when this would have put North Tawton down and out but with their new-found spirit and form a reply was not long coming. It took the form of a quick penalty which put No 8 Stuart Peters over for a try, converted by Joe Fewings to leave the score 10-7 at half-time.

This hard and physical game continued in the same vein after the break with North Tawton slowly getting the better of play. They were rewarded when a forward drive saw the ever-improving Neil Peters get the final touch down, converted by Joe Fewings.

North Tawton then had a purple patch with a great try after some superb inter-handling down the touch-line with excellent backing up. Finally evergreen prop Fred Bolt got the finishing try.

Tiverton were not done and came back with a try when a quick penalty put winger Craig Bulley over.

This provided a nail-biting last ten minutes, but North Tawton's defence held firm and they ran out deserved winners.

Neither teams have a game this weekend, but are looking for a fixture in the pool.
