Axmouth Town 1
Okehampton Argyle Seconds 5
OKEHAMPTON made the long journey to Axmouth, finished the match on a quagmire but still turned in a good workmanlike performance which gave them a comfortable victory.
They got off to a great start when the home keeper failed to hold a Danny Maddax cross and Tim Shaw tapped home from close range. Axmouth, who have beaten some of the top sides in recent weeks, got their equaliser when their keeper punted a long wind-assisted kick which fell sweetly to their front man who fired home.
Okehampton were forcing most of the play and from a Neil Agnew corner Shaw restored their lead with a nice left-footed volley.
Axmouth had their chance to equalise when Paul Yip was adjudged to have fouled in the box but the striker blazed over the bar.
At the start of the second half Yip made amends when he was pulled down in the box but this time it was Shaw's turn to blaze over the bar. Continual pressure told when Agnew went on a great run, side-stepping two challenges before laying a fine ball through to Shaw who finished coolly for his hat-trick.
Axmouth were looking tired on the heavy pitch and Yip's long ball which found Maddax who ran on and cheekily lobbed the keeper for a classy finish.
Okehampton were in overdrive going forward and Christian Jones finished the rout with a deserved goal, driving home low under the keeper.
Scott Leyman gave a confident performance in goal, saving a couple of good chances and Steve Loftus did extremely well in mid-ield with his first game in two years. Steve Harris ,Chris Wills, James Williams and Roger Voaden gave little away at the back in what was a tidy performance.
This Saturday home to Sandford, 3pm kick-off.
