Inter Cup round 3
Okehampton Argyle 2nd . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .2
Elmore . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 1
OKEHAMPTON had to battle right to the final whistle for this result against a good blend of youth and experience.
Early exchanges were even but from from an Elmore corner Neil Clift punched cleanly and the ball fell to Daniel Johnstone. He carried the ball down the left flank before splitting the visiting defence with an accurate through ball to Ian Reddington who fired home from an acute angle for Okehampton's first.
Elmore always looked dangerous up front and Okehampton slipped into disorganised mode and paid the price with their young striker neatly chipping the ball over the outcoming Neil Clift for the equaliser.
Okehampton continued to battle and when Jason Sandford managed to keep the ball in play cutting back inside and driving home low and hard with the visitors all claiming the ball had gone out Okehampton were back in control.
Half-time saw Aaron Bourne come on in midfield and the youngster had two good early runs at the Elmore defence.
Okehampton missed three good chances from Jason Sandford, Ian Reddington and Lee Gilbert which should have seen them with a safer margin but only one superb save from a free kick by Neil Clift kept Okehampton on track until the final whistle.
Saturday: away, fourth round Inter Cup v Crescent, 2pm kick-off.
