OKEHAMPTON Royal British Legion will be represented at the national Festival of Remembrance at the Albert Hall this November by young Branch Standard Bearer James Stacey.
James, from Halwill, came through the ranks of the Okehampton Air Training Corps Cadets, and at 18 is believed to be one of the youngest standard bearers in the country.
This is the second time that James will have represented Okehampton and Devon at this prestigious ceremony, in the presence of the Queen and Duke of Edinburgh.
Accompanied by his mother, Christine, he intends to return to Devon immediately after the Albert Hall ceremony on November 13, in order to attend the Okehampton Remembrance Parade the following day.
It is sure to be a tiring few days for this young member of the Royal British Legion, who will also be on parade at the annual county Festival of Remembrance in Exeter before travelling to London.
Branch secretary Peter Williams said James? dedication to his duties as Okehampton?s Standard Bearer were ?much appreciated by branch members and residents of the town?.
James will be joined in Exeter by other members of the Legion from Okehampton and the surrounding area as the branch is once again organizing a coach to take members and their dependants to the event.
The Festival of Remembrance for the County of Devon takes place on Thursday, November 11 in the Great Hall of the University of Exeter.
The festival will start at 7.30 pm with the muster of county Standards.
The coach will leave More newsagent in Fore Street, Okehampton at 6pm on Thursday, November 11.
Branch members wishing to attend the Exeter festival should add their names to the list on display in the Okehampton Club in Station Road, or call the branch secretary on 01837 840757.
Names have to be in by October 11 ? the cost of a ticket is £5.
