Saturday, September 5 saw the staging of Tavistock’s first outdoor, not-for-profit shanty/folk festival in the beautiful setting of Tavistock Meadows.

The late summer sun shone all day and the crowd soaked it up, with 11 acts alternating between the bandstand and main stage.

Banned From The Moor opened the main stage with a lively set followed by the seasoned shanty repertoire of Cousin Jack.

The Countrymen followed, with their unique brand of close harmonies, Cornish tales and lively banter and Barrett’s Privateers kept up the pace.

This set the stage for headliners, The Wellermen, who brought the festival to a close in magnificent style.

Organiser Jane Scott thanked all the local businesses and charitable organisations that supported the festival, saying she was particularly pleased to be able to make donations to local charities Tavistock Youth Cafe and Make a Difference.
