WIND and rain mercilessly beat down on the pitch, but the game turned out to be an entertaining one with Tavy desperate to make amends for last week's poor show at St Stephens.

The visitors won the toss and captain Nick John elected to face the winds. Scott Dent opened the scoring for Tavy but with the wind playing a major factor control was hard to maintain.

The second of the match and the goal of the game was an absolute rocket from Altarnun's Mike Colenzo.

Both keepers made several good stops before Mary Tavy got to grips with the conditions. Alan Grylls rounded the keeper to reinstate the lead and Dent secured his second. James Coole got back to his scoring habit to take the visitors in at half-time 4-1 up.

The second half saw Altarnun keeper Nigel Wadge display a string of fine saves to keep the score down as shots rained in on the home goal.

Mark Piper with a deft left-foot volley from the edge of the area sent the ball into the bottom corner of the net.

Grylls completed the rout and Mary Tavy celebrated their return to winning ways.
